The National Collaborative on Trauma-Informed Health Care, Education and Research (TIHCER) presents:
Presentation: Drs. Levy-Carrick and Rosales will discuss the ways in which a neuropsychiatric approach to trauma-informed care approaches can provide a framework for interdisciplinary, team-based, equity-informed care in outpatient psychiatric settings. This will include presentation of a program designed for patients with high psychiatric risk and complexity, as well as significant medical co-morbidities.
Nomi Levy-Carrick, MD is a psychiatrist who currently serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Programs in the Department of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, co-Chair of the BWH Trauma-Informed Care Learning Collaborative. Dr. Levy-Carrick has worked in settings addressing trauma for thirty years, including as Mental Health Director of the World Trade Center-Environmental Health Center in NYC (2011-2015). Her research addresses the mental health co-morbidities and impact on long-term recovery from physical injury and illness. Through the COVID pandemic, in addition to her clinical responsibilities, she focused on innovative work developing trauma-informed programs that advance mental health access and equity. Her abiding interest in is integrating mental and physical health approaches in ways that are mutually reinforcing, and in developing programs that leverage TIC principles to support health equity in low resource contexts.
Rachael Rosales, MD is a psychiatrist who serves as the Medical Director of the Trauma Informed Care Interdisciplinary (TICI) Team within Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Psychiatry ambulatory services and an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In addition to her outpatient clinical practice, she works as a psychiatry consultant in Brigham’s Jen Center primary care practice. She is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed her psychiatry residency at Brigham, where she served as a Chief Resident. In addition to her clinical and leadership responsibilities, Dr. Rosales is a clinical supervisor to psychiatry residents and subspecialty Fellows.
