What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)

As a consultant, I support organizations and coalitions to build equity-focused systems change through education, capacity building, relationship development, and strategic planning. One of our goals is to mitigate and prevent individual and community level trauma and it's impact on marginalized communities. I also volunteer for several racial and social justice organizations.

What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?

Substratum Systems.

What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?

I've been working to understand the impact of individual and community level trauma for about 5 years. I am a survivor of domestic abuse and have chronic depression and anxiety, partially due to my trauma. I led a community initiative around trauma-informed practices in Stockton for a few years and have also advocated heavily with San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services to more community-based mental health services to be funded with MHSA funds. In my current work as a consultant, I always try to ensure my clients have a clear understanding of how trauma shows up in the workplace and how it can be exasperated. I have a background in public health and early education so my perspective always comes from a place of prevention and in helping people see the links between issues and how they affect social determinants of health. I am also the mother of two young children who is trying to unlearn my childhood trauma and create a healthier generation.

If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?

ACT-CA and San Joaquin ACEs Aware
