What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?
The majority of people suffering chronic pain have pain either entirely due to or partially due to nervous system re-organization from past trauma. Trauma treatment is chronic pain treatment for these people. I am interested in advancing the state of trauma recognition and treatment in Arizona, starting with primary care. I am the medical director for a National Pain ECHO telemedicine teaching program, one goal of the program is to raise trauma awareness among my primary care colleagues. I would like to do a state wide survey of Arizona primary care providers to find out if they screen for trauma, if they do how, what their understanding of trauma treatment is, and especially for those that say they understand trauma treatment: Is it easily available to patients or not. I believe that is the 1st step toward change in our state. I have worked with AHCCCS directors, health plans, and Employers for 2 decades and we have not been able to get any traction, we need this data to tell the story of undiagnosed and untreated trauma.
If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?
