What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?

I have always had a desire to want to learn and understand how the patterns from our family members are passed down through generations and how they affect our decision making, relationships, perspectives, etc. I also grew up in a very dysfunctional home, where I was abused, witnessed domestic violence, and more. For years, I didn't understand why I functioned the way I did. Albeit, some of the decisions I made were solely my own, but I felt there was more. When I retired from the military and started my journey towards becoming a social worker, I learned about ACEs. I was immediately intrigued! I understood generational patterns from a spiritual perspective (my faith) but now I was able to understand from a scientific, empirical perspective. I started reading as much as I could, attended webinars to help learn more. I took the ACEs test and scored a 10 (I believe the highest you can score). My passion is to help women of all ages break the intergenerational cycle of brokenness and develop resilience. I want them to see, understand, and be empowered by the fact that they are not their past. Their past may always be with them but they do not have to live from that place.

If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?
