What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)

Dean of Parent and Student Support

What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?

KIPP Dream Prep (A free public charter school in Houston Texas. One of about 28 KIPP Schools in Houston and over 200 across the country

What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?

I have two main interests: One is so I can better help and support the students at my school who I know do have trauma in their background and for those students will experience trauma while still a student at KIPP Dream. I am also looking for someone to come and talk to our staff about he effects and impact trauma has on children. I have years of experience working with children and I understand how trauma impacts student's brain and their behavior. What I need our staff to understand is when there is an on-going behavior it is NOT personal and there is always a reason for the behavior. Too often our staff see the behavior not the child and this creates a host of problems and then we have staff who want me to "punish" the child when that is often the last thing the child needs. At our school we practice Restorative Justice and Social Justice and now I am ready for us to embrace and understand what it means to be a Trauma Sensitive School.
