Growing up, I was always taught to stand tall in the face of adversity, but what happens when the adversity is rooted in your identity? As a mother, clinical psychologist, and educator, I see how racial discrimination profoundly impacts the mental health of youth. My son is still too young to fully understand the intricacies of racism, but I can already feel the weight of wanting to protect him from the world’s harshest realities.

It's a reality that many parents of color are, unfortunately, familiar with: Our children face challenges that are uniquely tied to their race. This post explores the crucial intersection of racism and mental health, explaining how exposure to racial stress and discrimination can take a toll on our kids and what every parent needs to know to support their child through these experiences.
